Staff at Historic New England are sad to learn of the death of architect Michael McKinnell.
He and his partner Gerhard Kallmann made major contributions to our collection of archival material on twentieth-century architecture. We are honored that McKinnell and Kallmann selected Historic New England as the repository of their extraordinarily significant collection of architectural drawings of Boston City Hall and other early commissions. Please enjoy Gary Wolf’s article, “Inventing City Hall,” from the Winter/Spring 2009 issue of Historic New England magazine.
An exhibition of the original architectural drawings and other materials in the collections has been displayed at BSA Space in Boston and at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
