Cate Irvine is artist-in-residence at Governor John Langdon House

Historic New England and the New England Sculptors Association (NESA) are pleased to announce that sculptor Cate Irvine is the artist-in-residence at Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

From August 4 to 27, the artist’s studio is open to the public Fridays through Sundays during museum open hours. Irvine will delve into the history of Langdon House and invite the public to view the evolving artwork inspired by that research. “Visitors will be able to watch Cate create a sculpture in the studio located on the grounds of Langdon House,” added Marilyn Ewer, executive director of NESA. “We hope area residents will visit repeatedly so they can watch her progress.”

Irvine received her bachelor’s degree in art and anthropology at the University of Vermont and her master’s degree from the New York Academy. She has taught for a number of years at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester and at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot, Maine, where she has shown her work in group and faculty shows. More recently, she has shown at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, Maine, and New Hampshire Art Association’s Lincoln Levy Gallery, where she received an award for best in show. Irvine’s sculptures convey her love of naturalistic form.

The artist-in-residency program was funded in part by grants from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Fabulous Find Resale Boutique, and support from Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank.
