The Victorian Society honors the Eustis Estate

The Victorian Society in America voted to give the Eustis Estate in Milton, Massachusetts, a preservation award for “the state-of-the-art exterior and interior restoration of this 1878 Queen Anne mansion including outbuildings and gardens, with public access enhanced by a visitors’ center and comprehensive interpretive programs.”

The Victorian Society in America established the annual Preservation Awards Program to honor projects of outstanding merit in the preservation or restoration of significant buildings or artifacts that contribute to the material culture of the Victorian era. It is the only national organization dedicated to the study and interpretation of the Victorian era.

Historic New England began the extensive restoration project in 2014. After years of intensive planning, construction, and restoration, the museum opened to the public last spring. The project transformed a private residence into a public museum.

The visitor experience was designed to be innovative and inclusive. Traditional guided tours of the house and exhibition spaces are complemented by self-guided tours that, with the use of technology, allow visitors to define their own experience.

Visit the Eustis Estate to explore the transformed interiors and dramatic location.
