Rosenthal’s work illustrates hundreds of books, periodicals, and newspapers. The collection includes negatives, transparencies, digital files, prints, publications, and oral histories. It will be a valuable resource for historians, architects, architectural historians, and the public.
“We are honored that Steve and Kit selected us to be the long-term stewards of their archive,” said Senior Curator of Library and Archives Lorna Condon. “The Rosenthal gift complements Historic New England’s photographic collection of 450,000 images documenting the cultural and architectural history of the region. Rosenthal’s work will be cared for alongside the work of other prominent nineteenth and twentieth-century photographers in New England.”
Previously, Rosenthal worked with Historic New England on White on White: Churches of Rural New England, an exhibition that traveled throughout New England and featured forty of his photographs of quintessential New England churches.
