Amongst Friends: Sarah Orne Jewett and Her World

Find creative inspiration in the past

At Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum and Visitor Center

In this program, students explore the creative side of the past through the life and work of writer Sarah Orne Jewett and her wide circle of artist friends. Like Jewett and her friends, students take inspiration from their surroundings, both natural and built, to create their own works of art.

The program includes a pre-visit lesson in the classroom that introduces students to Jewett’s life and work. They will create a hand-bound journal to use for note-taking and sketching while on their field trip.
