History in your hometown

Did you know that within a thirty mile radius of Boston, Historic New England offers you a chance to tour some very distinctive historic houses or visit some lovely landscapes?

The nearby properties

Take a tour of the Eustis Estate in Milton or Gropius House in Lincoln. These two properties built just sixty years apart — one in 1878, the other in 1938 — exemplify the range of architectural styles found in New England. The Eustis Estate has a lot of ornate details and vibrant colors, while Gropius House is all about simplicity and streamlined style.

The nearby landscapes

If you are not ready to tour inside, but would like to get out for the day, consider a visit to one of our landscapes open to the public in the Greater Boston area. You can visit an Italian garden at the Codman Estate, revel in the open space abutting the Blue Hills Mountains at the Eustis Estate, check out the farm animals that are fostered at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, or enjoy the park-like grounds at the Lyman Estate. While you are at the Lyman Estate visit our Open Air Marketplace outside the Greenhouses to select your own bit of green to bring home. Our Fall Orchid Sale runs from Friday to Sunday, September 11 to 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or sign up for our Architectural and Garden Walking Tour held every Friday at 3:00 p.m. through October 9.
